3 Romantic Makeup Looks You Can Do for Special Occasions—Looks Inspired by Flowers

Special Occasions and flowers go together like ice cream and sliced banana: one can stand without the other, but the combination of the two is a well-accepted pairing. This pairing, however, is still missing a little cherry on top.

That’s where makeup comes in.

So we thought: why not bring all three together?

In this blog post, we will show you how to create three romantic Valentine’s Day makeup looks inspired by the unique characteristics of three flowers.

But first, let’s take a look at the primary steps, which you will start with for each makeup look.

The Primary Steps

Step 1: Apply the right primer for your skin. If your skin tends to be drier, use a moisturizing primer, but if your skin tends to be oilier, use a mattifying or pore-minimizing primer.

Step 2: Using a high-quality makeup sponge, apply foundation. Make sure the shade matches your skin tone.

Step 3: Set your foundation with loose powder. It’s better to use a kind of powder that will not alter the color of your base. Lightly pat the loose powder with your makeup sponge, especially on the oily areas of your face.

Step 4: Let the loose powder sit for a few minutes, during which you can proceed to do other parts of your face. Then, gently dust off the loose powder with a brush.

Now, let’s move on to the floral-inspired makeup looks!

Tulips

If you want your look to be inspired by the appearance of tulips, a bold lip look is the way to go. This means the action is heavy on the lips and a little less on the eyes.

First, do the primary steps, which will be your Steps 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Step 5: Using a lip liner, outline your lips a little over its actual shape. You don’t want to go overboard on this, so make sure the extra volume looks as natural as possible.

Step 6: Color your lips with red matte lipstick to achieve a pouting look. Using matte lipstick can help prevent the product from getting on your teeth, consequently helping you avoid a potential minor embarrassment from happening during your date.

Step 7: If you want an ombré effect—which is the case for some tulip colors—use eyeshadow for the inner part of your lips. Achieve the ombré effect by rubbing your finger on a dark brown shade of eyeshadow to get a bit of its pigment, which you then gently pat on the inner areas of your upper and lower lips.

Step 8: Apply highlighter on your eyelids as well as on the key areas of your face.

Step 9: Line your eyelids by finely applying eyeliner.

Red Roses

The color red signifies heated energy. When you see the color red, you think of activity, sensuality, and passion. So for this makeup look, exude romance in its intense form by painting the town—well, some areas of your face—red!

First, do the primary steps, which will be your Steps 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Step 5: Choose a shade of red you like. Get a cream-based lipstick and a matte lipstick of the same hue and shade. However, if you’re cool with using cream-based lipstick on your lips as well, then stick with only one lipstick. (We’ll explain soon.)

Step 6: Apply the red lipstick of your choice as you normally would. You can make your lips appear fuller by going slightly beyond your lip border (also known as the vermilion border).

Step 7: Apply the red cream-based lipstick on your eyelids, too. Do this by dabbing a bit of the cream-based lipstick on your eyelids and then spreading the pigment across their width.

Step 8: Apply highlighter on the key areas of your face.

Step 9: Line your lids with a full black eyeliner. Don’t forget the wing!

Carnation

Carnations are a delicate and diverse flower species. Their petals are formed by intricate ruffles, and their color patterns can range from solid blocks to tinted rims. With carnations as your makeup inspiration, be sure to make your eyeliner and eyeshadow colors pop and your eyelashes flutter fiercely.

First, do the primary steps, which will be your Steps 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Step 5: Choose a pastel-colored eyeshadow and apply the pigment across your eyelids.

Step 6: Choose an intensely-glowing highlighter. Apply highlighter on your eyelids as well as on the key areas of your face.

Step 7: Line your eyelids with a hue that contrasts or complements your eyeshadow shade. You can find the complementary pairs of colors using this calculator from Sessions College’s website!

Step 8: Stick your false lashes on. Prep your eyelashes first with an eyelash curler. Then, lightly brush glue on the sticking end of the false lashes; wait for the glue to dry a little. After, paste the false lashes on your lash line. And remember to stroke your real and false lashes with mascara once the false lashes have fully adhered to your lash line. This will give your lashes extra volume.

Step 9: Choose a nude color for your lips. Your eyes are the star of the show in this makeup look.
